Macecall (pronounced “Massa-call”) was started in 2011 by Alfred and Margaret Muthomi who gave up a comfortable life to help children who had no one.

After graduating from the University of Nairobi with a degree in Business Administration, Alfred began a career in program management with a microfinance organization. But Alfred kept seeing children who had no one to care for them and no hope for a good life. Alfred and his wife Margaret decided to start a children’s home in a remote part of Kenya.

Alfred has a lot of knowledge about farming and animal raising and he is slowly trying to make Macecall self-sufficient for its food needs. The home has a robust garden and raises chickens and cows.

The home has 69 children, ranging in age from 4 to 24. Since 2011 over 400 children have lived in the home and gained an education and then a career that allowed them to be self-reliant young adults. Because they were exposed to Alfred’s knowledge about farming and livestock care, many of those young people are now working as farmers.

The children live in the orphanage until they finish high school. If they wish to attend college they will move to a hostel near their school and their fees are paid by Macecall Children’s Home. They are given a monthly allowance and taught how to budget their money. The home currently only brings in about half the amount needed to properly care for all their children. Macecall welcomed the opportunity to partner with World’s Children in order to have their children supported by loving sponsors.
