In many communities across Africa, long-standing cultural norms have placed girls at a disadvantage—limiting their access to education, safety, and opportunity. Too often, girls are expected to remain at home while boys attend school, and in vulnerable situations, some are pushed into early marriage or left without protection or support. Poverty and hardship can deepen these challenges, leaving young girls—especially those without family care—at risk of exploitation, trafficking, and life on the streets.
More than 20 years ago, Lloyd and Mable felt called to respond. They opened their home to vulnerable and orphaned girls, offering what they could: food, shelter, education, and, most importantly, the love and stability of a family. Though the need was overwhelming and their first effort was unexpectedly cut short after just a few years, the impact was lasting. Of the 16 girls they welcomed, many were able to grow, heal, and pursue an education.
Years later, that original vision was rekindled. Through a renewed connection and partnership with World’s Children, Mab’s Haven was brought back to life. Today, Lloyd and Mable are once again caring for young girls—welcoming them into their home, nurturing them as their own, and providing the essentials every child deserves: nutritious meals, access to healthcare, quality education, and a safe, loving environment.
With continued support, Mab’s Haven is preparing to expand into a larger home, creating space to care for even more girls in need. What began as a small act of faith has grown into a place of refuge, hope, and transformation—made possible through partnership, compassion, and a shared belief that every girl deserves the chance to thrive.

Give the gift of stability.
