Bridge of Hope Children's Village is nestled in the green hillsides of Gondar, Ethiopia.
They have a unique model of holistic care for the children. On the compound is a school, a central kitchen, apartments for family style living for the children, and vocational training. The children who come to Bridge of Hope are there because their mothers abandoned them at Gondar Hospital or have lost their parents due to natural or man-made disasters, including the surrounding ethnic conflict. On their property they care for around 60 children in 10 adjoining family style apartments and another 14 children away at school but still under their care.
The Tigray conflict was a civil war from 2020-2022 that continues to bring violence close to Bridge of Hope’s land. Because of the violence, it often shuts down main routes for trucks and planes to provide food to the region, which skyrockets costs.
